““It is truly an honor to play on the debut album from drummer extraordinaire Lou Varuzzo. Lou’s musicality and technique is truly amazing and puts him in a class with some of the great drummers of our time. His selection of classic songs including jazz tune “Spinning Wheel” and original songs like the Latin tinged smoker “KellyLou” is worth checking out. Do yourself a favor and pick up a copy today.”
Barry Eastmond -
Producer/Songwriter/Keyboardist
“Lou’s an excellent, extremely versatile drummer,” says Petito. “But he also really knows how to work together well with other musicians, and he’s a really, really good arranger.” For evidence of the latter, check Lou’s sparkling horn chart for the Latin-flavored “Kelly Lou.”

The long awaited debut cd of drummer Lou Varuzzo is out.... and it’s hot. The influence of The Crusaders is spot on. ... if you were a fan of The Crusaders you will love it. The album opens with an eight piece funk arrangement of Pee Wee Ellis’s The Chicken which rivals Tower of Power with a strong baseline from Jeff Carano.
The mood shifts with the late Don Grolnick’s Pools establishing a mood and shifting rhythm that is reminiscent of Weather Report
The arrangements go from quartet to ten piece ensemble
Scott Petito’s production at NRS in Catskill NY sounded like any major studio record.
The best regional and world class players like guitarist David Spinozza and keyboardist Barry Eastmond make these arrangements jump right out of the speakers
A great blend of classics like Mercy Mercy Mercy, Oh Happy Day and Spinning Wheel and some strong originals from Steve Raleigh and Peter Tomlinson
Full disclosure ... Lou is my neighbor and friend ... but I am truly knocked out by this disc .... we are both known for parties at above average volume
I still have a CD player in my car ... and this disc will live there for awhile...
